Salt Lake City is home to over 1.2 million people in the metropolitan area. The city continues to present a small-town atmosphere in spite of having a large population.
The Latter-day Saints culture is prevalent in Salt Lake City. However, less than half of the population in the city would consider themself members of this religion.

This city has more diversity than people realize. The city has a liberal spirit which can be reflected in local businesses (restaurants, coffee shops, yoga studios, and bars located in the downtown area).
Regardless of a persons’ beliefs, the vibe of the city is undoubtedly friendly and welcoming.
What unites the community is an appreciation of the beauty of Utah. Utah is one of the most beautiful states. Salt Lake City is a place many are proud to call home.

Temple Square

Temple Square is the most popular attraction in Salt Lake City. There are free 45-minute tours that is offered in 40 different languages. On the tours they explain Salt Lake City’s pioneer history while showcasing the gardens, reflecting pool, and other historic landmarks like the Salt Lake Temple and Tabernacle.

Salt Lake Tabernacle

Are you or someone you with a music lover? The Salt Lake Tabernacle is the perfect place to go! The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is one of the oldest and largest choirs. It is open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and they have rehearsals open to the public on most a Thursday evenings.

The Utah State Capitol was completed in 1916, and is home to Utah’s Government. The prominent landmark is built from local granite and Georgian marble. The building looks out over the valley and is open daily for free self-guided tours.

City Creek Center

In the bustling downtown of Salt Lake City is this world-class shopping center, City Creek Center. Named after the creek that runs through the center. City Creek Center offers high-end retail shops as well as local shops.

Salt Lake City Library

The Salt Lake City Library is simply an architectural masterpiece. Designed by Moshe Safdie, the uniquely curved library gazes out over the city’s skyline and features a rooftop garden with 360-degree views of the valley and mountains.

Governor’s Mansion

Built in 1902 for the wealthy Kearns mining family, is known today as the Governor’s Mansion. This lavish mansion features a stunning gold dome, intricate wood carvings, and chateau-style architecture. The Governor’s Mansion is one of the many beautiful historic homes in downtown.

Natural History Museum of Utah

The Natural History Museum of Utah is located on the University of Utah’s campus near downtown Salt Lake City. Visitors can come here to experience engaging exhibits on the areas history, geology, and view collections of items from the regions prehistoric people.

Let’s not forget the many hiking opportunities in and around Salt Lake City! There are many hikes and trails within minutes of the bustling metropolitan area. Here are some of my favorite trails below-

Ensign Peak Trail

Ensign Peak Trail: This short (1 mile round-trip) and rewarding hike near downtown offers an incredible view of the valley and mountains. The trail is family friendly and easy for anyone not used to the elevation.

Living Room Trail: Known for its stone stacked furniture looking features, this 4 mile round-trip hike is a local favorite. This steep winding trail offers amazing panorama views.

Brighton Lakes Trail: Although you can’t jump in the lakes, as they are part of Salt Lake’s water supply, this 6.7 mile round-trip hike is one you won’t want to miss. With views through the Wasatch canyon, it’s definitely a site to experience.
