Top 10 Best Beaches on Oahu

Whether you are visiting or living on Oahu, you know there is a beach somewhere nearby. If you don’t go to the beach at least 2 to 3 times a week what are you doing?! Luckily there are many beaches to choose from on Oahu. Here is our list of top 10 Best Beaches on Oahu (not in any specific order).

Important Beach Information

While beaches are places of relaxation, fun, and adventure, it is IMPORTANT to be informed about the potential dangers of the ocean. As well as some of the laws of the beaches on Oahu.

Ocean Wildlife / Sea Creatures

There are many wildlife and sea creatures in the ocean. In Hawaii, you’re most likely going to come across fish, Hawaiian monk seals, turtles, man o’ war (jellyfish), dolphins, and even whales! If you happen to come across any of these, please keep your distance, after-all you’re in their home.

There is no law specifying the minimum distance people can approach a sea turtle. However, getting close to any of these animals may constitute a federal or state violation if the animal is disturbed or if your action has the potential to disturb its natural behavioral patterns, as stated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

It is against the law to be within 50 feet (15 meters) of any Hawaiian monk seal resting on the shoreline as stated by the NOAA. It may be tempting to get close for a picture, but please observe from the regulated distance.

Sharp Coral and Rocks

Certain beaches around Oahu have sharp coral and rocks. These can be avoided by swimming instead of walking, or wear some water shoes.

Please try not to step on the coral. Coral is home to a large portion of fish and other sea creatures. When people step on coral, it is killing the food supply. Also, if you can, choose a sunscreen that is ocean-friendly that doesn’t harm the coral, reef, wildlife, etc.

Keep the health of our ocean and the amazing creatures in mind, we only have one earth!

Tide

People tend to forget about the tide. Sometimes the tide can change unexpectedly. When the tide rises, it makes it much harder to get back to shore in some places. When the tide is low, there will be much less water between the surface that has the coral and sharp rocks.
