The island of Oahu, Hawaii is filled with natural wonders. Scenic mountain views, incredible beaches, and of course, waterfalls! There is always an opportunity to see many of the spectacular sights across the island.

There are many waterfalls on Oahu, however, only a small percentage of them are easily accessible. In order to get to most waterfalls it will require a hike, some can be reached quickly, and others will take a few hours.

If you are feeling adventurous and up for a little trekking through the forest, then keep reading to see our list of the Best Waterfalls on Oahu, Hawaii.

Important Information

All untreated fresh water in Hawaii is possibly contaminated with the leptospirosis bacteria, which makes it dangerous to swim in.

Manoa Falls

Manoa Falls is probably the most well known and visited waterfalls amongst all the accessible waterfalls on Oahu. Getting to the glorious 150-foot waterfall is an easy 1.6 mile trail that is well maintained and family friendly. FUN FACT: The Jurassic Park movie’s and the TV series Lost, both have filmed at Manoa Falls. I highly recommend getting there early to avoid all the crowds.

Waimea Falls

Waimea Falls is located in Waimea Valley’s beautiful botanical garden in the North Shore of Oahu just behind Waimea Bay. To reach the waterfall, hike up to the end of the trail (about a mile) where you’ll encounter the 45-55 foot waterfall that cascades down into a pool below. Visitors to this waterfall are allowed to swim. There are changing rooms nearby and a lifeguard is also on duty.

Lulumahu Falls

Lulumahu Falls is probably one of my favorite hikes/waterfalls on Oahu. The hiking trail to the waterfall is quite the adventure, walking through the bamboo forest, uneven and muddy paths, and crossing the stream multiple times, not much more you ask for on a rewarding trek through the forest to reach the 50-foot waterfall. The trail and waterfall is on private land, however of all the times I’ve been there, nothing is enforced and the gate is open. So proceed at your own risk.

Likeke Falls

Likeke Falls is an impressive 20-foot waterfall below the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout. There are two ways to get to these falls, one from the Lookout and one from the Ko’olau Golf Club. I recommend the later, BUT as of recent, the golf club does enforce the parking strictly for the golf club members/visitors. I haven’t been turned away yet, but maybe that’s just my luck… the trail itself can be muddy, wet, and slippery like most other hikes on this side of the island, but getting to this waterfall is definitely worth the effort.

Maunawili Falls

Maunawili Falls is an impressive 20-foot waterfall located near the Pali Highway on the Windward side of Oahu. It will take you about an hour or two to reach the waterfall, this trail is ALWAYS muddy, wet, and slippery as it’s always raining on this side of the island. Just like Manoa Falls, this hike can be very crowded most of the time, so come early if you can to avoid the crowds.

Waimano Falls

Waimano Falls is located on the Manana/Waimano Ridge hiking trail at the end of Komo Mai Drive. The trail itself is an easy three-mile hike that starts off as paved, then once you’re off the paved trail and heading towards the waterfall is when it gets muddy and slippery. The only part of this trail that requires effort is “Cardiac Hill.” It’s a steep set of branches that you need to go down and back up on your way back. Also don’t be afraid of those wild boars on the trail, most are harmless, but if they chase you, be prepared to run!

Laie Falls

Laie Falls is a must do just for the fact that most times you’ll be at this waterfall by yourself. However, you will need to get a permit from Hawaii Reserves to go to Laie Falls as it is on private property. People do trespass which I highly DO NOT recommend you do, just not worth it. Getting to the waterfall requires a seven-mile hike. The trail is nice, quiet, and fairly easy. Once you reach the waterfall you’ll be met with a 15-foot waterfall that falls into a swimmable pool.
